ENGLISH FOR OFFICE SKILLS
Certified by City & Guilds Institute
The City & Guilds English for Office Skills course is designed to meet the needs of organisations which value the accurate use of written English in their transactions. Typical candidates for this course would be clerical or secretarial staff who may not have to draft original documents, but are certainly expected to prepare final drafts, or prepare documents for publication.
The principal skills tested are linguistic accuracy (spelling, syntax, vocabulary and punctuation), comprehension (listening and reading) and proof-reading.
English For Office Skills Part 1
The aim of the examination is to measure the candidate’s accuracy in the use and transcription of English at an elementary level, and the ability to perform simple office-related tasks in accordance with spoken and written instructions.
The examination is suitable for candidates whose first language is English or for speakers of other languages who wish to acquire certification for their accuracy in English usage.
Candidates may include people working in or studying for the following occupational areas:
- Text and document production (e.g. secretaries, typists and typesetters)
- Office administration
- Proof-reading
- Sub editing
English for Office Skills Part 2
The aim of the examination is to measure the candidate’s accuracy in the use and transcription of English at an intermediate level, and the ability to perform office-related tasks in accordance with spoken and written instructions.
The examination is suitable for candidates whose first language is English or for speakers of other languages who wish to acquire certification for their accuracy in English usage.
